Festival Podcast warps back to Warhammer Monthly

On a special episode of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast the team go all grim dark with a look at the Warhammer comic universe, leading with a chat with comics writer and author Dan Abnett.

Dan, whose comics career began as an editor and writer at Marvel, UK, and currently writes strips for titles such as 2000AD, including “Sinister Dexter” and “Kingdom”, has also written Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

He wrote many strips for the Warhammer Monthly, an anthology title published by Games Workshop’s publishing arm, Black Library, from March 1998 to December 2004, running to 86 issues in total. He continues to write novels based around the Warhammer 40k universe.

In the wide-ranging interview with Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates, Dan talks about his early work, his comics career and his work he’s done for the Warhammer brand over the years.

Also on the Podcast is freelance comics feature writer and archivist Richard Sheaf, the creator of Boys Adventure Comics blog and longtime downthetubes contributor. Richard talks about Warhammer Monthly, which featured stories from all sides of the Warhammer universe, from a wide range of creators.

As an added bonus, there’s an extra episode of the Podcast – “Episode 77 and a half” with Mike Williams and Pete Taylor, who continue their comic genre World Cup with Group D, Part 2. This is the final stage segment and will go on to the quarter finals next episode!
