Heike Friesel
Her work has included heading the literature and translation departement at the Goethe Institut. Prior to that she was at the Goethe-Institutes in Sweden, Portugal, Israel, and worked at Litrix.de, German Literature Online.
She has been with the Goethe-Institute since 1991.
As the globally active cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Goethe-Institute advocate for understanding between Germany, Europe and the world. The framework agreement with the German Federal Foreign Office is the foundation for this work. Worldwide, they provide information about the cultural and societal diversity of Germany and Europe. 151 Goethe-Institutes in 98 countries together with numerous partner institutions form the basis of their global network. The German Federal Foreign Office supports their work institutionally.
As a registered charity they operate autonomously on a legally independent basis and are not affiliated to any political party. They generate around a third of their revenue themselves, through income from language courses and examinations. They also receive support from the European Union, further German federal ministries as well as foundations and companies in Germany and abroad.
One important goal of the Goethe-Institut Ghana is to promote international cultural cooperation by organising a broad variety of events to present German culture.The Goethe-Institut Ghana offers workshops, seminars for teachers of German as a second language, and also provides an extensive examination programme. Learning about German life and culture is an integral part of their language courses.
