The Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast goes all graphic medicine for their latest episode, chatting with ace comics creator Ian Williams.
Ian created the Graphic Medicine website and following on from that has created two graphic novels, The Bad Doctor and the upcoming The Lady Doctor., due for release next month from Myriad Editions.
The Lady Doctor focuses on 40-year-old Lois Pritchard. She is currently single, despite the attentions of her many admirers, and is, by her own admission, "not very good with relationships." Starting guitar lessons on her 40th birthday does not become the release she hopes from life's vicissitudes.
When her estranged mother makes a dramatic appearance on the scene, Lois must look to something far more radical to sort out her personal life. From the moment the readers see Dr Lois nipping out of the back of the surgery for a fag, they know they are in for a behind-the-scenes warts-and-all comedy drama.
Ian chats with hosts Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates abut his career as a doctor and how this led to the creation of the website and his books. The team also offer a full review of The Lady Doctor, too.
Also reviewed are Needleman by Martin ‘Simo’ Simpson, Plan A/ Plan B by John Tucker and 24 Panels by numerous artists.
(Do check out the website for 24 Panels, as it's an important book created to help raise funds to support the survivors of the Grenfell fire disaster).
Pete Taylor has a chat with the creator of Needleman, Martin Simpson about comics, Kickstarter and his comic creation process - and Mike Williams talks all about The Boys comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which is due to come out as a TV series in 2019.
