On this week's Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast (Episode 75), Pete Taylor chats to 2000AD and BPRD artist Laurence Campbell, and podcast hosts Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates chat to writer and comic book enthusiast Jordan Thomas about his comic "jam" project, Quarantine.
Laurence has been working on BPRD, a spin off from the Hellboy comic, for several years. Previously, he has worked at Marvel on titles such as Deadpool Pulp, Marvel Universe Vs Wolverine, Punisher Max, Wolverine, Moon Knight and Stephen King's The Dark Tower.
He has also drawn "Judge Dredd" for 2000AD and has recently been working on Old Haunts, published through America's AWA Studios, written by Ollie Masters (The Kitchen) and Rob Williams (Judge Dredd). Pete chats with Laurence about this new comic, his work and processes.
In Old Haunts, available to read for free asa digital edition on AWA Studios, Tapas and Webtoon, three Made Men, standing at the brink of retirement, find their unbreakable bond put to the ultimate test when they are suddenly assaulted by the ghosts of their past. Confronted by decades of buried secrets – resentments, affairs, double-crosses, and murders – the three friends have no choice but to unearth the deepest, darkest sin from their past and pray they don’t find an empty grave.
Also this episode, Tom Stewart reviews All The Sad Songs by Summer Pierre and published by US publisher Retrofit Comics, and podcast hosts Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates chat to writer and comic book enthusiast Jordan Thomas about his new comic Quarantine, which is currently funding on Kickstarter.
Quarantine is a 40-page one-shot comic story with a different, incredible artist contributing every page. Including the cover that's over 26 of the best artists working today, including Podcast contributor Pete Taylor, all in one book.
However, that's not all. The special edition prestige format version of the book offered on Kickstarter will feature tons of wonderful "making of" material, showing how the book came together, sharing many of the artists' stunning design work as they prepared their page with backers.
Mike Williams and Pete also continue their Lockdown Mutterdowns World Cup of Genres segment, as well as a catch up from them, and a letters section. This group (Group C) covers Fantasy, War, Sci Fi and Adult. We wish them luck! (Please feel free to message letters in direct to Mike or Pete or via the Podcast website).
