We’re delighted to report that playmaker, writer and artist Edward Taylor has published a new Godzilla book, Godzilla Tries To Get Out, a sequel to the wonderful Godzilla’s Lockdown Diary.
Godzilla’s Lockdown Diary, a 56 page full colour comic book, is a charming, beautifully drawn comics project by Edward Taylor, supported by the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, first published digitally by LICAF on Tapas.
The “Diary” emerged from a long series of drawings that Edward created in 2017 and reveals just what Godzilla gets up to underground when he’s in between film projects.
40 drawings from that book were exhibited at the Brewery Art Centre in Kendal, during the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in 2019.
Now, after Godzilla was locked down last year, in the all-new Godzilla Tries To Get Out, he’s had enough and wants to get escape! Which is not easy…
Godzilla Tries To Get Out, available here, offers 70 pages of tribulation in full colour, created and published by Edward Taylor, and has again been published with the support of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.
“A lovely evocation of the the last eighteen months,” one reader has already said of the new book,” adding, of Edward’s work, “It's good to see you've spent your time well - an impressive achievement!"
Edward Taylor has spent 38 years touring nationally and internationally with the Whalley Range All Stars, a street theatre company he formed with Sue Auty. Drawing plays an important part in the early stages of every company production.
In the last few years, he’s worked on a variety of comic strip stories as a side-line to the theatre shows, including not only his Godzilla books, but illustrated books such as Glock and Beretta, too.

I know nothing about comics, but this is a lovely piece of work,” enthuses one reader of Godzilla’s Lockdown Diary, while another told a clearly delighted Edward, “I really, really loved it, it was profound and beautifully drawn and a bit sad and spoke so much about lockdown in so many clever ways.”
